“Carmelaram” is a study and formation centre where a good number of  Christian Institutions are functioning. Among these institutions the Carmelaram Theology College (CTC) and the Adhyatma Vidya Peetham (AVP) are the pioneering centres for higher learning in Theology and Spirituality.

The Discalced Carmelite Friars of the Malabar Province came to Bangalore in the early 1960s and in 1971 they established a Theology College for basic course in theology. The Spirituality Institute (AVP) was inaugurated on December 11, 1976, by Most Rev. Antony Padiyara, the then Vice President of the CBCI. In 1980 AVP was affiliated to ‘Teresianum’, the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality, Rome.

From 1976 to 1993 the Spirituality course was conducted in a building adjacent to the Carmelaram Theology College. On  February 21, 1993, the AVP began to function in a new building with updated facilities.
